In praise of Moms

I recently decided to do my kitchen in farmhouse style with folk art farm animal art. I started out with a chicken painting and an old framed window. Added red gingham, an old wooden cracker box, large vintage scales but needed something else.

I asked Mom to paint me a large folk art sheep and she did! She said it took her a while to get the crackling technique perfected but she did it and did it well!

It now graces one wall in my kitchen.

Mothers are wonderful aren’t they?

Today’s Earthfind ‘quote of the day’:

It’s usually a dirt road that leads to the diamond mine.

Speaking of roads…. The other day I pulled out of my long gravel drive onto the main country lane and said “Whoa! Somebody striped the road!” (Course no one could hear me as I was driving alone, in the country, miles and miles from the hustle of the city….)

As long as I can remember that lane has been blacktop, of some sort. Just a flat line of darkness cutting through the oak trees and horse pastures, ambling along, waving in and out, over the hills and across Little River. But today, today, it seemed to have purpose. That long bright yellow stripe down the middle beckoning, saying “Come, come this way.”

As you crest a hill, with the yellow stripe to your side, you can see far ahead, no other cars in sight, the long yellow stripe beckoning you to come, follow me, like the yellow brick road in the classic Wizard of Oz, leading you on your journey.

Or just off to work!

Today’s Earthfind!

Creamy corn casserole, spicy hot potato salad made with whole potatoes, green salad topped with cheese AND bacon AND eggs, creamy alfredo style macaroni and cheese, mouth watering bbq chicken (and beef and pulled pork) all topped out with the worlds best bbq sweet and tangy sauce.

Sounds yummy? WHERE on earth would one find something like that? IRON STAR BBQ (on Shartel) in Oklahoma City.

Now, I like barbeque but this, this was out of this world good!

People’s eyes get wide when they see the spread that Iron Star has in it’s catered lunches. Lines? No lines, every man’s for himself. Hands go every which a way as they grab utensils, all trying to make sure they get some of their favorite.

The bread pudding is a particular favorite in our office!

What did you have for lunch?
